5 Years of Nature FirstFive years ago on Earth Day, we launched Nature First to address the growing impacts of nature photography on our natural world. We were at a crisis point where so many nature photographers had seemed to forget about the importance of protecting the places they were photographing. We developed the Nature First Principles as a simple way to help us all be more thoughtful in our approach and in our use of photographs.Today, as we talk with photographers, we're hearing about signs of change. We’re hearing encouraging news of photographers being more thoughtful and more aware of their role as caretakers and ambassadors of the natural world. We know that there are still many people who don't know about the Nature First Principles or who choose to put themselves first, but overall it appears to us that there has been a slow shift to a more positive approach over the years. |

Earth Day - April 22, 2024This year, to celebrate Earth Day and also the fifth anniversary of Nature First, we'd love to hear from you about what you're seeing, out in the field, across the world. Are you seeing signs of hope or signs of concern? How have the Nature First Principles influenced your thinking and actions? As we look forward to the future, how do you think we as a global nature photography community can play a more positive role in the well-being of our natural world? What steps do you plan to take this year? On Earth Day, Tuesday April 22nd, consider making a post about these issues on social media. Simply use the hashtags #naturefirst and #earthday so all of us can read each other's posts. This will be a great way for us to learn from each other and continue to help spread the word about using nature photography for the good of our natural world. |
