Earth Day 2025: “Our Power, Our Planet”<\/a>\u00a0– harnessing renewable energy to build a healthy, sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for all.<\/p>

For 55 years, Earth Day has led the world in raising awareness and taking action on critically important environmental issues. This year 192 countries and over one billion people around the globe are expected to participate.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A Commitment to Renewable Energy<\/h3>

This Earth Day<\/a>, as we embrace the theme \u201cOur Power, Our Planet,\u201d<\/em><\/a>\u00a0I find myself reflecting not only on the beauty of wild places, but also on the growing urgency to protect them.<\/p>

As a nature photographer and conservationist, I\u2019ve had the privilege of witnessing nature’s beauty across the world \u2014 from alpenglow lighting up jagged peaks at sunrise to the soft pastels of red rock country at dusk, and sunlight filtering through hushed, old-growth forests.\u00a0I go in search of light and life.\u00a0<\/p>

But over the years, I’ve also witnessed the increasing signs of loss – glaciers retreating, habitats shrinking, and ecosystems divided and disrupted. These aren\u2019t isolated changes.\u00a0They\u2019re part of a global pattern\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>climate change<\/a>, driven largely by our continued reliance on fossil fuels.<\/span>\u00a0They’re the consequence of <\/span>climate change<\/a>, driven largely by our continued reliance on fossil fuels.<\/span><\/p>

Energy is not just a technological issue. It\u2019s a deeply environmental one. And the shift to renewable energy\u00a0<\/span>is more than just an abstract strategy to cut carbon\u00a0emissions. It\u2019s about reclaiming\u00a0the\u00a0<\/em><\/span>power to choose<\/em> a different future\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014 one where ecosystems are preserved (not sacrificed in the name of energy production), and nature and technology move forward together, not in conflict<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Nature and Clean Power: A Photographer\u2019s Perspective<\/h3>

As someone who photographs wild places, I see renewable energy not only as a climate change solution \u2014 but as a tangible way to keep our natural ecosystems intact.<\/p>

Fossil fuel extraction is among the most destructive forces acting on the environment today.\u00a0<\/span>It fragments landscapes, pollutes air and water, and displaces wildlife.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Renewable energy offers a better way \u2014 one that doesn\u2019t demand the destruction of important ecosystems just to keep the lights on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Think: <\/b><\/span>less mountain-top removal for coal extraction. Fewer industrial roads cutting through deserts, forests and tundra.\u00a0<\/span>Less noise, and fewer pipelines.\u00a0<\/span>Cleaner air and water allowing nature and wildlife to recover, rebound and thrive.<\/span><\/p>

And I believe we, as Nature First members<\/a> and responsible nature photographers<\/a>, have a unique role to play. We know that images have the power to change minds and spark conversations. When people can see that renewable energy means more than just technological innovation \u2014 that it represents a future where nature and wildlife still have a place \u2014 they’re inspired and feel empowered to support it.<\/p>

Renewable energy \u2014 wind, solar, geothermal, and beyond \u2014 is not just about technology. It\u2019s a lifeline for the wild places we love and photograph.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How I\u2019m Supporting the Transition<\/h3>

As someone who documents nature\u2019s story, I want to do more than simply observe<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014 I want to contribute to solutions that make <\/span>a better world.\u00a0<\/span>That\u2019s why I\u2019m making intentional choices to support clean energy:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
