Son la sanaci\u00f3n de nuestras almas, as\u00ed como una forma de resistir las crecientes amenazas a nuestro mundo.<\/p><p>En Estados Unidos y en todo el mundo, los lugares que amamos enfrentan un riesgo cada vez mayor. Las tierras p\u00fablicas se est\u00e1n abriendo a la extracci\u00f3n y el desarrollo. Las protecciones para las especies en peligro de extinci\u00f3n se est\u00e1n debilitando o ignorando. Las pol\u00edticas clim\u00e1ticas se est\u00e1n revirtiendo o se les est\u00e1 quitando financiaci\u00f3n. Y el efecto acumulativo se est\u00e1 acelerando: la reducci\u00f3n del h\u00e1bitat, el aumento de las temperaturas y la p\u00e9rdida de biodiversidad a un ritmo mucho mayor del que muchos imaginamos presenciar en nuestra vida.<\/p><p>En Estados Unidos, el enfoque de la administraci\u00f3n actual en materia de gesti\u00f3n ambiental ha sido preocupante. Si bien algunas agencias y l\u00edderes siguen abogando por la conservaci\u00f3n, muchas decisiones han priorizado las ganancias econ\u00f3micas a corto plazo sobre la estabilidad ecol\u00f3gica a largo plazo. Se ha acelerado la extracci\u00f3n de petr\u00f3leo en tierras que antes estaban protegidas. Se ha revisado la Ley de Especies en Peligro de Extinci\u00f3n para dificultar la aplicaci\u00f3n de las protecciones. Pero nosotros, los fot\u00f3grafos, tenemos un papel \u00fanico y poderoso que desempe\u00f1ar.<\/p><p>No somos observadores pasivos de la naturaleza. Al publicar im\u00e1genes en l\u00ednea o exhibir tu trabajo, cuenta la historia detr\u00e1s de la foto: no solo los detalles t\u00e9cnicos, sino tambi\u00e9n lo que el lugar significa para ti, las amenazas que podr\u00eda enfrentar y c\u00f3mo otros pueden ayudar a protegerlo.<\/li><li><strong>Eduque a su audiencia.<\/strong> Incorpora mensajes de conservaci\u00f3n en tus pies de foto, entradas de blog, videos y charlas. Ayuda a las personas a comprender la conexi\u00f3n entre las decisiones pol\u00edticas y la belleza que ven en tu trabajo.<\/li><li><strong>Apoye a las organizaciones de conservaci\u00f3n.<\/strong> Dona una parte de tus ventas, ofrece impresiones para recaudar fondos o colabora en campa\u00f1as de concienciaci\u00f3n. Pero no estamos indefensos. Cada uno de nosotros lleva consigo una herramienta capaz de preservar la memoria, despertar emociones e impulsar el cambio. En nuestras c\u00e1maras, albergamos m\u00e1s que lentes y sensores: albergamos una forma de defender lo que no puede hablar por s\u00ed mismo.<\/p><p>Este momento hist\u00f3rico exige m\u00e1s que fotos hermosas. Exige valent\u00eda. Exige honestidad, responsabilidad y amor convertido en acci\u00f3n.<\/p><p>As\u00ed que ve, recorre los bosques, espera junto a los senderos, admira. Pero no te detengas ah\u00ed. Comparte lo que ves. Cuenta las historias tras la quietud. La soledad, el silencio y la sensaci\u00f3n de conexi\u00f3n con algo mucho m\u00e1s grande que yo me ha atra\u00eddo desde entonces. Despu\u00e9s de la universidad, pas\u00e9 una d\u00e9cada viviendo en la Pen\u00ednsula Balc\u00e1nica de Europa con mi esposa Joanna. A\u00f1os de mucho estr\u00e9s durante este per\u00edodo llevaron a un agotamiento severo. En busca de la restauraci\u00f3n aprovech\u00e9 la oportunidad de mudarme a las monta\u00f1as de Colorado en el borde del Parque Nacional de las Monta\u00f1as Rocosas. All\u00ed, por senderos tranquilos, rodeada de belleza y soledad, mi alma comenz\u00f3 a recuperarse. Decid\u00ed hacer una carrera en el senderismo y as\u00ed me convert\u00ed en fot\u00f3grafo profesional de la naturaleza. Mientras caminaba por los numerosos senderos del parque nacional tanto de d\u00eda como de noche en busca de im\u00e1genes \u00fanicas, volv\u00ed a la vida y me encontr\u00e9 rebosante de cosas sobre las que quer\u00eda escribir. Esto me llev\u00f3 a convertirme en escritor y tambi\u00e9n en editor.
