Ha anche lo status di protezione dell&#039;UE Natura 2000. \u00c8 un importante punto di sosta per migliaia di uccelli che migrano lungo la cosiddetta rotta dell&#039;Atlantico orientale, dal circolo polare artico all&#039;Africa. Altri sono orientati a informare il grande pubblico (residenti, turisti, birdwatcher e fotografi) su come evitare di causare disordini. Questi sottolineano l&#039;importanza del Waddenzee per milioni di uccelli e le ragioni per cui hanno bisogno di riposo e privacy. Uno di questi luoghi \u00e8 noto come Westhoek. Nell&#039;ambito di un progetto pi\u00f9 ampio, qui \u00e8 stato avviato un progetto pilota. I visitatori ricevono informazioni in tempo reale su una speciale colonna informativa sulle maree e su quando mantenere le distanze.
