Questi momenti sono pi\u00f9 che semplici opportunit\u00e0 per scattare fotografie. Sono la guarigione delle nostre anime e un modo per resistere alle crescenti minacce che incombono sul nostro mondo.<\/p><p>Negli Stati Uniti e in tutto il mondo, i luoghi che amiamo sono esposti a rischi crescenti. Le terre pubbliche vengono aperte all&#039;estrazione e allo sviluppo. Le tutele per le specie in via di estinzione vengono indebolite o ignorate. Le politiche climatiche vengono revocate o private di finanziamenti. E l&#039;effetto cumulativo sta accelerando: riduzione dell&#039;habitat, aumento delle temperature e perdita di biodiversit\u00e0 a un ritmo ben superiore a quello che molti di noi immaginavano di assistere nel corso della nostra vita.<\/p><p>Negli Stati Uniti, l&#039;approccio dell&#039;attuale amministrazione alla tutela ambientale \u00e8 preoccupante. Mentre alcune agenzie e leader continuano a sostenere la conservazione, molte decisioni hanno privilegiato i guadagni economici a breve termine rispetto alla stabilit\u00e0 ecologica a lungo termine. Le trivellazioni petrolifere sono state accelerate su territori un tempo protetti. L&#039;Endangered Species Act \u00e8 stato rivisto per rendere pi\u00f9 difficile l&#039;applicazione delle tutele. Ma noi fotografi abbiamo un ruolo unico e potente da svolgere.<\/p><p>Non siamo osservatori passivi della natura. Ne siamo testimoni, interpreti e, potenzialmente, custodi. Attraverso le nostre immagini e le nostre parole, possiamo mostrare agli altri cosa c&#039;\u00e8 in gioco. Possiamo ricordare alle persone cosa ci resta e quanto rischiamo di perdere. E possiamo ispirare il tipo di amore che porta all&#039;azione.<\/p><p>Ecco alcuni modi in cui possiamo ricoprire questo ruolo:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Usa la voce.<\/strong> Condividi le tue foto con uno scopo preciso. Quando pubblichi immagini online o esponi il tuo lavoro, racconta la storia dietro la foto: non solo i dettagli tecnici, ma anche il significato che il luogo ha per te, le minacce che potrebbe affrontare e come altri possono contribuire a proteggerlo.<\/li><li><strong>Istruisci il tuo pubblico.<\/strong> Incorpora messaggi di conservazione nelle tue didascalie, nei post del blog, nei video e nei discorsi. Aiuta le persone a comprendere il collegamento tra le decisioni politiche e la bellezza che vedono nel tuo lavoro.<\/li><li><strong>Sostieni le organizzazioni per la conservazione della natura.<\/strong> Dona una parte dei tuoi ricavi, offri stampe per raccogliere fondi o collabora a campagne di sensibilizzazione. Ma non siamo indifesi. Ognuno di noi porta con s\u00e9 uno strumento in grado di preservare la memoria, suscitare emozioni e innescare il cambiamento. Nelle nostre fotocamere, conserviamo pi\u00f9 di lenti e sensori: conserviamo un modo per difendere ci\u00f2 che non pu\u00f2 parlare da solo.<\/p><p>Questo momento storico richiede pi\u00f9 di belle foto. Richiede coraggio. Richiede onest\u00e0, senso di responsabilit\u00e0 e amore tradotto in azione.<\/p><p>Quindi andate, vagate per le foreste, attendete lungo i sentieri, rimanete incantati. Ma non fermatevi qui. Condividete ci\u00f2 che vedete. Raccontate le storie che si celano dietro la quiete. Durante questi anni la natura selvaggia si \u00e8 fatta strada in un luogo profondo dentro di me ed \u00e8 diventata una parte centrale della mia vita. La solitudine, il silenzio e il senso di connessione con qualcosa di molto pi\u00f9 grande di me mi hanno attratto da allora. Dopo il college ho trascorso circa un decennio vivendo nella penisola balcanica europea con mia moglie Joanna. Anni di forte stress durante questo periodo hanno portato a un grave esaurimento. Alla ricerca del restauro ho colto al volo l&#039;opportunit\u00e0 di trasferirmi sulle montagne del Colorado ai margini del Rocky Mountain National Park. L\u00ec, su sentieri tranquilli, circondata da bellezza e solitudine, la mia anima ha cominciato a riprendersi. Ho deciso di fare carriera nell&#039;escursionismo e cos\u00ec sono diventato un fotografo naturalista professionista. Mentre percorrevo i numerosi sentieri del parco nazionale sia di giorno che di notte alla ricerca di immagini uniche, sono tornato in vita e mi sono ritrovato traboccante di cose di cui volevo scrivere. Questo mi ha portato a diventare uno scrittore e anche un editore.
