Article Submission Guidelines

Please read carefully and follow all guidelines when submitting an article for publication. Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will not be approved.

General Guidelines

All Nature First members are welcome to submit an article for publication at Nature First. Be sure to read some of our featured articles before submitting. This will help you see topics that have already been covered as well as give you a general feel for the preferred layout and formatting.

Nature First is looking for articles with the following topics:

Practicing the Nature First Principles in specific ecosystems.
Taking action to promote responsible nature photography.
Using photography for preservation, conservation and education about the natural world.
Personal stories about becoming an ethical, responsible nature photographer, and what you learned along the way.

General Guidelines

Approved articles will tell a fresh and engaging story, be well-written with clear and concise prose, and be illustrated with high-quality images. Articles with excessive grammatical errors will not be accepted. Note that all articles will be available for automated machine-translation. Authors should refrain from slang and colloquialisms which don’t translate well across language and culture.

Article submissions must:

be entirely the creation of the submitting author and not previously published, including the author’s website.
be in English, between 800-2,500 words in length.
include 4-7 high-quality images, at least 1200px on the long edge, and file size less than 2mb.
provide your full name and links to your website and/or social media to be included in a byline with the published article.
be of file type: .doc, .docx, .jpg, .zip

Terms of Agreement

You license Nature First with Nonexclusive World Electronic Rights to publish and display your article on the Nature First website indefinitely.
You declare that you are the sole copyright owner of the submitted text and photographs.
You have read and understand Nature First’s Terms of Use.
You agree to not hold Nature First liable for any unauthorized reproduction of your text and photographs, or any claims of damage resulting from your article being published on the Nature First website.
You agree that Nature First may edit submitted text for grammar, structure and layout.
You agree that Nature First may edit submitted images, including but not limited to resizing.
Nature First will notify you regarding publication approval, via email, within 30 days of submission.
Authors will be accredited with a byline in the publication containing their name and links to website and/or social media accounts.
Authors will be compensated $50.00 US for each approved article. Nature First will send compensation, via PayPal, within 15 days of approval date.
